INTERVIEW DIEGO TAMAYO "My goal is to defend the victory in the Tropic"
In 2015 was the fastest in the GAES Titan Desert by Garmin and in the same year won the double crown Titan to claim victory in the first edition of the Titan Tropic Cuba by GAES.
What would you emphasize on the Titan Tropic?
It is an exotic race in a tropical atmosphere in a typical country for known as holidays place so the fun is assured. These two aspects together with an MTB competition makes the perfect jumble for the MTB lovers to enjoy. Also the fact that in December, when in Spain is winter and it's cold and you have the opportunity to travel to a warmer place and to do what you love… A perfect combination!
How was the reception of Cubans?
In this regard we have no complaints; it was certainly one of the most rewarding aspects of the race. At every moment you feel wrapped by their applauding and support given to you. It is a Latin country, Cubans are friendly people and they convey to you a lot from the beginning. You can fell their warmth and temperament, the good work of the Cuban people is extraordinary.
What advice would you give to the one who would sign up for this adventure after your victory in the 1st edition?
Have to take it as a challenge, think that being in December you change the monotony of the schedule you have set here. It is important to prepare for the race physical and mentally to be ready in December. It is very difficult to prepare for heat, so it is best to try to go about 3 or 4 days before so the body acclimatize to the weather, moisture and adjust to the time difference.
What do you remember with particular enthusiasm of the 1st edition of the Titan Tropic Cuba by GAES?
I remember specially our arrival at Cayo Jutias, a paradisiacal area in a unique country. Its white sand beach beside the sea and invites you to take a bath after arrival and in my case to do so as a winner. One of the most beautiful moments of the entire Titan Tropic Cuba by GAES.
